Earl Claxton Collins
Age 98, retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant of Colorado Springs, CO, and formally of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, December 24th 2017. He was born October 1st, 1919 in Ellisville, MS, Jones County. He was the son of Ulysses S. Collins and Buelah Hosey Collins, and grandson of Jasper Collins, a prominent citizen of Jones County, MS.
Earl was a proud Air Force and World War II veteran returning in 1966. After 22 years of service, he went on to work at General Tire & Rubber Co. as Production / Sales Manager in Columbus, MS. He retired from General Tire. He was a member of the Veteran’s Association, Masonic Lodge, and a Shriner. He loved the lord and continued to read the Bible every day. He loved his family, grand-dogs, and Ole Miss Rebels.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Jean Beverly Collins, his baby son Richard Earl Collins, and brother Elmo Collins.
Earl is survived by his son Dr. Harry S. Collins (Pooler, GA), daughter Martha (Rick) Martin from Las Vegas, NV, Daughter-in-Law Ruth E. Collins (Crested Butte, CO), one sister Eschol Helveston (West Point, MS. He has 3 living grandchildren, Tom Collins, Courtney Collins Oman, and Isabella Collins, 4 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A full military funeral to be held at Fort Logan, CO on December 28, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Shriners Children’s Hospital, 815 Market St., Galveston, Texas. (loveshriners.org)
