Ellie was a treasure to her community and a deeply loved friend to many. She served as a volunteer in the Special Programs in Religious Education (SPIRE) at the US Air Force Academy and always took great joy in serving dinners to the Prep School students and socializing with them. Earlier, she was a part of the newcomer’s welcoming committee in her neighborhood and served as a volunteer and a Board member at Tri-Lakes Cares. She was very physically active until she fell ill last May and loved to take long walks and do workouts at the USAFA gym. She and Ken are long-time members of the St. Michael’s Catholic Community at USAFA.
Ellie and her husband Ken raised two granddaughters Haley and Devin Rose and they were the jewels in her crown and the loves of her life. Haley is an RN and is married to a USAF pilot and currently lives in the UK, where he is based. Devin Rose is a graduate student at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. She was very proud of her girls and often talked of their many accomplishments. Haley called her Gramma while Devin always called her Gam-Gam. By any name, they loved her and she was devoted to them.
She was born in Connecticut and she and Ken met and married in Cheyenne, Wyoming while he was in the USAF stationed at Warren AFB. They later transferred to Vandenberg AFB in California and had many adventures traveling throughout the West. After his retirement they moved to Knoxville, TN and built a happy life there until moving to Gleneagle, Colorado soon after their first granddaughter was born in Aurora. Ellie is survived by her sister Jay Murphy in East Hampton, CT, her granddaughters, her husband Ken, her niece Lisa, and nephew Barry.
Her many friends came to visit with her throughout her illness, showing their deep love and support. Friends gave of their time to sit with her and brought gifts of food, flowers, cards, and many other comfort items. The family will be forever grateful for all the support. Ellie was cared for by a team of people from Compassus Hospice and the family is also deeply grateful for their expert sensitive care.
When we think of Ellie, we will always hear her laughter and feel her kindness. She is missed by her entire family and will never be forgotten.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Swan-Law.com for the Judd family.
