

Betty was born on February 26th, 1934 in Colorado Springs, CO to Caspar and Esther Schweier. She was the second of two children. Growing up in Colorado Springs, she loved farm life, especially feeding the chickens.
After graduating from Saint Mary’s High School in 1952, she attended Blair Business College to train as a Secretary. After college, she started working at Shepherd's Citations in downtown Colorado Springs.
Betty belonged to a singles group at Divine Redeemer church where she met her soon to be husband Thomas D. Grassel.
After a long courtship, the two were married on January 16, 1960. Together they welcomed three boys, Tommy, Bobby, and Joey.
They moved to Boulder Colorado after the birth of their first son in 1960. She loved living in Colorado and enjoyed all the time outdoors hiking, biking, and being with her family. Family and friends were always extremely important in her life.
In 1965 her husband retired from the Air Force, so they moved back to Colorado Springs to be closer to her parents and friends. She enjoyed the holidays and always made them a time to remember. Elizabeth loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Her favorite food to bake was Chocolate Chip cookies. She was an avid animal lover and owned many dogs through the years.
Her husband, Thomas D. Grassel, preceded her in death.
Elizabeth leaves behind her loving children Tom, Bob, and Joey; and her precious grandchild Mark.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 20th, 2025 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N Cascade Ave. Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
A Celebration of Life will follow on Friday, March 21st at 10 a.m. at Divine Redeemer Church, 927 N Logan Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.
Elizabeth will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery 1000 S. 26th Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marian House in Colorado Springs, Colorado for the homeless.
