Elwina Marie Knox
Elwina M. Knox passed away June 10, 2017 in the loving presence of her family. She was born September 10, 1929 to Lawrence and Blanche Mockler in Perth Andover, New Brunswick, Canada.
Elwina grew up with 3 sisters and 7 brothers and countless friends as she was open, quick to smile and mischievous as a child, traits that she carried with her throughout her life and were especially prevalent in the later stages of her Alzheimer's. Elwina married Wilton A. Knox, in 1960 and spent the next 26 years traveling the world with him as he served in the Air Force. Wilton passed in 2006. The couple are survived by their two children and their spouses, Marc And Renita Knox and Jane and Mike Olien. They are also survived by 3 grandchildren, Nathan Olien and his wife Krista, Trisha Knox and Adam Knox. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and all spent special time with her in the week leading up to her passing. She is also survived by 4 of her brothers.
Elwina and Wilton retired in Colorado Springs and were very active in the Peterson AFB Chapel programs, especially the Catholic Women of the Chapel, Doll workshop, and the Eucharist ministry. They were also involved with the Knights of Columbus. They enjoyed camping, traveling to visit their grandchildren, and going to Cripple Creek for a little gambling and dinner with friends. Elwina worked at Peck and Peck in the Citadel Mall for years and her love of clothes and fashion did not fail her, even as her memory did.
Elwina spent the last 2 1/2 yrs in Texas near her children and touched so many more lives. She will be missed by all who knew her and will forever be in our hearts.
A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at Memorial Gardens in Colorado Springs on Friday June 30, 2017 at 2pm, followed by a reception. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Alzheimer's Association are greatly appreciated. Our family will be forever grateful for the love of her friends from her life in Colorado and to the amazing staff of caregivers who loved her as their own at The Legacy at Forest Ridge in Schertz, TX.
Arrangements under the direction of Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
