Ernest (Ernie) Joseph Niemiec was born on March 21, 1930, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He passed into eternal life on April 2, 2024, having just reached 94 years of age. His father was Piotre (Peter) Niemiec, who immigrated from Poland and his mother was Rose Piecienski (Pinski) Niemiec. He was the youngest of four children (Hank, Wally, Lucille, Ernie). He attended St. Casimir Elementary School in St. Paul, where they spoke Polish in his early years, Cretin High School, (Class of 1948) and attended one year of college at St. Thomas College.
From 1948 to 1951, he worked as a printer at Mutual Service Insurance Company in St. Paul, Minnesota and on November 25, 1950, he married his sweetheart, Earlene Ann Ringold, to whom he was married for 47 years. Together they had four children, Kathleen, Edward, Ernest, Jr. and Janene. On July 15, 1951, Ernie joined the United States Air Force.
Ernie made a career in the military from which he retired after twenty-plus years of service. The military took him and his family all around the United States including stints at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska and even a tour overseas in Japan at Tachikawa Air Force Base. He worked as a programmer and in intelligence while in the service. He retired from the Air Force on July 31, 1971, while based at Ent Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Ernie and Earlene loved Colorado very much and decided to make it their home. After leaving the military, Ernie became a realtor and was the president of his own company, Mid-America Real Estate and Investment Corporation. He was active in real estate into his seventies and said it gave him great joy helping people to acquire a home as he knew it was one of the biggest purchases and decisions of a person’s life.
Ernie was affectionately known as “Papa” and loved his growing family very much. He leaves behind three surviving children, Kathleen Murnane of Colorado Springs, Edward Niemiec of Cripple Creek, and Janene Ballard of Denver. He is survived by six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by them all.
