Fred Squire Murr of Falcon passed away peacefully at his home on March 4, 2022, at the age of 80 after a battle with lung cancer. Fred was born May 30, 1941, in Colorado Springs to Alfred “Fred” Washington and Bernice (Groft) Murr of Ellicott. Fred was raised on the family’s small dairy farm in Ellicott and attended Ellicott Schools. He worked for Powers Dairy milking cows and at the age of 17 he began working a temporary job at Collier Lumber Co. in Colorado Springs unloading lumber from rail cars. This temporary job turned into a long career in the lumber industry with the company, which later became Flintco Lumber & Components. Fred spent more than 30 years at the company working his way up the ranks serving as a truck driver, dispatcher, and for many years as the Yard Manager and Purchasing Agent before the company’s closing in 1998. Fred was a car enthusiast and was ALWAYS a Ford man. He was proficient at car repair, body work, restoration and was constantly buying and selling cars through his company, Fred’s Auto. He was a self-taught type of person – a Jack of all trades and became a master of all he attempted. Being involved in the lumber business made it easy for him to get into the home building industry. Over the years he built three homes for himself as well as numerous homes for his family and many friends. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend to many and will be dearly missed.
Fred is survived by his two children Fred Jr. (Connie) Murr of Pueblo and Tammy (Dan) Fields of Falcon; three granddaughters Amy Jo Fields, Jervaise (Christopher) Pileggi, Jessica (Adam) King; three great grandchildren Zayne Rodgers, Remi King, Jenevieve Pileggi; sister June Heimsoth; and his faithful dog Milo. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Freda, Edna Mae, Margorie, Jim, and Helen “Windy”; granddaughter Nicole Fields and great granddaughter Harvey King.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 10:00 am at Meridian Point Church, 5450 N. Meridian Rd, Peyton, CO. Interment at Peyton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the Nicole Lyne Fields Memorial Scholarship c/o Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Foundation, 4595 Hilton Parkway #100, Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
