

Gary attended college in Arizona and graduated from the University of Arizona Law School in 1974. He interned at a law firm in Colorado between his second and third year of law school, fell in love with the state and moved here after graduation. He loved fly fishing Colorado's rivers, riding his Honda motorcycle through the mountains and taking to the air as a private pilot. Gary served as a prosecutor with the El Paso County District Attorney, as a domestic law magistrate for the 4th Judicial District and for 20 years in private law practice. A long-time member of the El Paso County Bar Association, he participated in many programs such the annual Law Day and the weekly "Ask a Lawyer" call-in program. He was honored by the Colorado Springs Legal Aid Society for representing many pro-bono clients.
Gary loved music, reading, theater, movies and baseball. He began playing the piano as an adult and became an accomplished musician. He loved the Beatles, classical music, movie scores, the works of Andrew Lloyd Weber, the songs of John Denver and Neil Diamond. An avid reader, he enjoyed thrillers, mysteries, nonfiction and the movies and plays that were produced from them. Gary had season tickets for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Colorado Rockies, enjoying games with baseball buddies Biff and Tom.
Survivors include his son Christopher Lawyer of Canon City, sister Patricia Davis and nephew Patrick Richards of California, Team Gary members: Biff Warren of Niwot, Ken Carr, Tom Barnes and JoAnn Lawyer of Colorado Springs, and Dianna Lawyer-Brook of Boulder, Bill and Barb Jones and Joanne Jardine of Colorado Springs. Also, devoted correspondent Jean Lambroughten-Hassard of British Columbia, caregivers Mary Diaz and Penny Winters of Colorado Springs and long-time employee Pam Isner. The family gives special thanks to the staff of Namaste Alzheimer's Center.
A Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Swan-Law Cascade Chapel, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. A reception will follow immediately.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Gary's memory to the Association for Frontotemporal Arrangements under the direction of Swan-Law Funeral Directors, Colorado Springs, CO.
