Gerald "Jerry" Provost, 75, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on July 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Jerry lived a life that was larger than life itself—a man shaped by adventure, grit, and a spirit that couldn’t be tamed.
Born on January 2, 1950, in Detroit Michigan, Jerry grew up with the roar of engines and the smell of high-octane fuel in his veins. As a young man, he was drawn to the fast life, tearing up the quarter-mile at Detroit’s local strips in his Plymouth GTX with his brothers, sister, cousins, and friends. However, Jerry’s life was not just about cars and speed. In the late 1960s, he answered the call of his country and was drafted for the Vietnam War. He served honorably and, despite being medically discharged due to his sun allergy, carried the pride of being a U.S. Army veteran for the rest of his days. Once discharged from the Army, he became a dedicated mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and moved to Black Forest, Colorado to pursue his dream of becoming a cowboy and mountain man. For over 25 years, Jerry could be seen on his route, rain or shine, delivering letters and parcels with a smile and a kind word for every neighbor. It was a job he did with pride, and it was a route where many considered him a friend rather than just a postal worker.
Outside of his career, Jerry was a man of many talents and pursuits, and he was always in his element. He loved the outdoors with an intensity that matched his youthful spirit—whether it was skiing down powdery slopes, playing a round of golf, or spending time with his horses, Jerry always lived life fully. He lived with a rugged independence and a deep respect for nature that he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bobbie Provost; their children, Jessica (Anthony) Kouri and Travis (Linae) Provost; and two grandchildren who adored their “Pops” and will forever cherish the memories of his stories, adventures, and the lessons he imparted. He is also survived by his four brothers and one sister: Ron (Diana) Provost, Larry (Sandy) Provost, Joe (Kathy) Provost, Joan (Jim) Rausch, Al (Denise) Provost, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will carry on his legacy.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Rosemary Provost, and his brother, Dan Provost, who were always a special part of Jerry’s life and whom he missed dearly.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Swan Law Funeral Home, where friends and family are invited to share stories and memories of Jerry. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Swan Law’s chapel. At 2:00 p.m., there will be a committal service at Pikes Peak National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Rest easy, Jerry—you’ve earned your rest, but your spirit will forever echo in the mountains you loved.
