

She was born August 12, 1943, in Chicago, IL to Walter and Frances (Podwika) Kapanowski . She grew up in the Chicago area attending and graduating from Visitation Catholic High School. Gertrude married James F. Pierson on June 20, 1964 in Chicago. Gertrude retired from the Navigators after eighteen years of service as a Staff Benefits Administrator. Her greatest joy was her family
and her devotion to her church. She was actively involved in Bible studies through the church and Share Colorado. Other interests that Gertrude enjoyed were baking, reading, gardening, collecting Willow Tree Figurines and Thomas Kinkade Light Boxes. She was a loyal Broncos Fan.
Gertrude is survived by her three children: James (Debbie) Pierson of Bowie, MD, Julie (Frank) Pyle of Aurora, CO and Janet (Kirk) Gerard of Colorado Springs, CO, six grandchildren: Amy, Jenna and Dimitri Pierson, Ashley and Daniel Pyle and Samantha Gerard, and three great-grandchildren: Blaise and Jarek Bensko and Kayden Pyle, and a brother Eugene Kapanowski of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson Lucas Pierson and her sister Barbara Lonigro.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Swan-Law Funeral Director’s. The Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., Holy Apostles Catholic Church 4925 N. Carefree Circle, Colorado Springs, CO. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
