

Harold Garner born on May 7, 1919 and passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011. He was the 2nd of 3 children born to Fred and Opal (Mathena) Garner in Franklin, Indiana. Harold was a star athlete at Center Grove High School (Greenwood, IN) where he lettered in Basketball, Baseball, and Football. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Upon returning from the Pacific Theater, he married Sarah Margaret Surface (deceased) on November 23, 1946.
Harold worked for the Allison Division of General Motors, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a Little League coach, was an active member of the Bargersville Civic Organization, and was a member of the Bargersville Christian Church. Most of all, Harold was known as being a really good person, who enjoyed being around friends and family. He was always the life of the party.
Life long residents of Johnson County, Indiana, Harold and Margaret moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in the fall of 1995 in order to be closer to their son and his family. For the past two years, Harold has resided in the Memory Care unit at Mackenzie Place in Colorado Springs.
Harold is survived his son Ron (Rita) Garner, a grandson Ryan (Sarah) Garner, great grandchildren Ian (8) and Caitlin (3) Garner, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, wife, brother (Herschel) and sister (Catherine) preceded him in death.
Family members would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff at Mackenzie Place and to all of those special hospice caregivers at Odyssey Healthcare.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 18th , at Memorial Gardens Cemetery located at 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO from 10:00 – 11:00 with funeral services following immediately afterward.
