Henry (Hank) W. Koldenhoven

presence from stroke complications on September 26, 2012 in Colorado Springs at the age of 77.

Born in Orange City, IA to Joe and Nellie Koldenhoven, Hank grew up in Hollandale, MN and married his

sweetheart from Sibley, IA, Mary Tolsma, on November 30, 1954.

Seven years and two small children later they moved to Colorado Springs in 1961. In 1972 Hank started

his first Big 0 Tire store in Fountain, Colorado, owning as many as three stores before passing the

business on to his two eldest sons.

Some of his favorite activities were fishing with his brother, children and grandchildren; camping with

family and friends; making fine furniture and cabinets; tinkering with old tractors; coaching the Big 0

softball team and spending time with his wife of almost 57 years.

Hank was also active in his local church and served in various positions, including Elder, Deacon, Search

& Building Committee Chair, teaching Sunday School and going on many mission trips to Honduras. Later

in his life he put his wood-working skills to use by making windows for over 115 houses that were built

for families living in the Mexican dumps.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, Grace Van Meekeran, and his best friend

and brother, Daryl Koldenhoven. Hank is survived by his wife, Mary; children Bruce (Wendy)

Koldenhoven, Sandy (Lee) Hopkins, Anita (Phil) Hildebrand, Scott (Lynn) Koldenhoven, Doug (Robin)

Koldenhoven, along with 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother Jerry Koldenhoven; sisters

Mary VerHey, Kathy Fister, Theresa Newgard, and Joan Konyndyk; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins,

nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Memorial Hospital Foundation -

Stroke Fund, 1519 E. Boulder, Colorado Springs, CO 80909 in memory of Hank Koldenhoven.

A Viewing will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 from 5-7pm at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.

The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11:00am at Cragmor Christian Reformed

Church with a Viewing beginning at 10:00am. A Reception will follow the Funeral Service.

The Entombment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
