Her story really can’t be told apart from the love of her life, Charles M. Bollar, Jr., whom she met in 10th grade civics class when they were 15. They dated for six years. She graduated from Louisiana Tech with a degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy, and they married on June 4, 1961. They moved to Germany to fulfill Chuck’s ROTC requirement after he graduated in architecture from LSU in 1962. Their daughter, Enne Bollar Goss, was born there, and their son, Chas Bollar, was born in Baton Rouge, LA.
They joined the staff of The Navigators (for 15 years) upon returning to the US and served God from Louisiana to Georgia to California to Colorado. During those years, Ione raised Enne and Chas, cooked thousands of delicious meals for family, friends, and strangers; hosted hundreds of people in her homes; attended and led dozens of Bible studies; and worked for Chuck’s architectural firm in the 80’s.
Ione is survived by her daughter, Enne (Bob) of Colorado Springs, son, Chas (Kimberly) of Loveland, CO, six grandchildren: Corey (Andy) Griffith, Shelby (Jonathon) Murphy, Daniel (Brianna) Goss, Kiel (Brittany) Bollar, Kenzee (Cody) Bollar, Kira (Joe) Bollar, and seven great-grandchildren: Cael, Declan, Matthew, Jaydyn, Kasyn, Evelyn and Aspyn; niece, Suzanne Cook, and sister-in-laws, Nelda Jeffery and Barbara (Jerry) Camp. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Clement and Mildred Jeffery, and brother, Tommy Jeffery.
