

James (Jim) Drury, 70, beloved husband, father and grandfather died peacefully September 23, 2015 at Morning Star Memory Care in Colorado Springs, CO. Jim was born August 3, 1945 in Dixon, Illinois. Jim grew up in Colorado Springs and graduated from Harrison High School. After serving in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Policeman, he returned to Colorado Springs to begin his career in law enforcement, joining the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1966 where he served until 1978. In 1978 Jim joined the District Attorney’s Office in the San Luis Valley as a criminal investigator and law enforcement instructor.
In 1982 he was elected to the Office of Sheriff in Alamosa. After serving 3 consecutive terms as Sheriff, he retired with over 28 years in the Criminal Justice field. Jim is survived by his loving wife Barbara, 1 week short of their 48th wedding anniversary: daughter Jaime (Mark) Miller, grandchildren Tessa and Reid Miller, sister Linda McCormack, brothers Norm (Sharon) Drury and John, brother-in-law Bill Larson and many nieces and nephews and special friends. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Jane Drury. A celebration of life will be held Monday, September 28 at 11:00am at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to New Century Hospice or charity of your choice.
