James Michael "Jim" Larsen, 79, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025. Born on November 25, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa, Jim lived a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections.
Jim spent his career as a successful business owner and mechanical engineer, bringing his practical and disciplined approach to everything he undertook. His professional dedication was matched only by his commitment to his faith, as an active member of Lakeside Lutheran Church, where he was deeply involved in the men's Bible study group.
Above all, Jim was a devoted family man. He was the beloved husband of Sharon Clemons Larsen, his partner of 50 years and the love of his life. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home where countless memories were made. Jim was the proud father of Katherine Larsen Wilson, father-in-law to James Chadwick Wilson, and the cherished grandfather of Nathan James Wilson and Taylor Grace Wilson. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy Rankin and Mark Larsen, as well as his son-in-law, Chad Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud Larsen and Mildred Larsen.
Jim had a lifelong passion for the water that defined much of his life and leisure time. Whether sailing with friends in the Caribbean or hosting family and friends at "Larsen's Landing," the family's beautiful home on Lake Gaston, Jim found his greatest joy near the water. Many evenings found Jim and Sharon on their dock, sharing quiet conversations while watching the sunset together.
Friends and family will remember Jim as a fun-loving yet practical man, one who balanced his disciplined work ethic and serious study of Scripture with an infectious enthusiasm for life's pleasures. He was always up for sharing a good time or a good story, and particularly enjoyed sharing a fine scotch, especially when accompanied by his daughter, Katie. His generous, welcoming, and playful spirit created lasting memories for the many guests and family members who experienced his hospitality at the lake house.
A celebration of life will be held in Virginia sometime early in the fall. Date and location will be shared once determined.
Jim's legacy lives on in the love he shared, the memories he created, and the lives he touched. His warmth, generosity, and zest for life will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
