He was raised in San Diego, California attending San Diego High. He then joined the Marine Corps in 1946. The early years were spent as an M.P. Then he turned his career to an avionics specialist, retiring in 1966 as a gunnery sergeant after over 20 years of service. He was also a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The family then moved from California to Colorado Springs in 1967. At this point he was employed by Colorado Springs Utilities electric division as a lineman. He retired from the utilities.
Family and friends were extremely important in his life. He enjoyed camping, fishing, as well as travel with his wife, who he lovingly called his Bride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and his son James T. Stathem in 1993.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 67 years Dawn F. Stathem. Also his daughters Bonny Eisen (Ken), Yevonne Stathem, Joanne Baughman (Monty), and son Mark D. Stathem, 12 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren and his beloved dog Bella.
He will be laid to rest at Pikes Peak National Cemetery with full military honors.
