Jamie Melissa Hemmings (nee Kreiser), born 13 June 1981, aged 43, passed away in her sleep on 10 February 2025 at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jamie was the daughter of Jerome and Cindy Kreiser, of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Jamie… was a unique soul. If there was a standard sidewalk path in life to follow, Jamie would walk across the grass, admire the flowers, pet the cat, mention a WWE wrestling story line from 20 years ago, and give a critical eye to the books in your yard sale. She loved books, horror movies, professional wrestling, green chile, big, funky eyeglasses, Marilyn Monroe, Dolph Lundgren, Mariah Carey, and Halloween. Since her passing, her family has received condolence messages from across the world. Nothing speaks to one’s character more than the number of time zones grieving at the same time.
As a young adult, Jamie earned a hard-fought Journalism degree from the University of Regina, turning her passion for the written word into a true weapon of change. She reported on serious issues in small town Saskatchewan, and she was a regular contributor to the SLAM wrestling website. Mentoring under Bob Leonard, she covered the ups and downs of an industry she loved with all her heart, from the Ring Boy scandal to the latest weekly match updates. Moving into communications, Jamie later found work at the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, doing her best to make sure everyone’s voice was heard.
It was in Saskatchewan that she met her husband, Martin, a military air traffic controller at 15 Wing Moose Jaw. Martin saw a girl who wasn’t interested in the student pilots training in Moose Jaw, and Jamie saw a rugged, handsome, go-getter who could get things done. (Martin also has a gift for prose that comes in handy when she can’t contradict him.) It was a perfect match, and they got married in 2008.
Shortly after their son Liam was born, the family moved to Panama City, Florida and Jamie took on the role of homemaker, looking after her little boy’s needs. It was here that Jamie decided to convert to Judaism and poured herself into completing the Rabbi’s Hebrew lessons to connect to her inner calling. The family then moved to Winnipeg, Ottawa, Albuquerque, Winnipeg (again), and finally Colorado Springs. Moving is always difficult, but somehow Jamie made new friends at every stop.
Online, Jamie linked up with a ragtag band of superfans to form the Figure Gore podcast, combining her love of horror movies with the best of professional wrestling. She was so excited to bring her professional training to bear and make each episode the best with her iconic big glasses and mental encyclopedia of wrestling knowledge.
Jamie was magical. She had her own style, and she could light up the room with those big green eyes, the bold eyeglasses, and the carefree laugh. She could connect to any audience on many different topics. Level-headed, but willing to kick down doors for a friend in need, Jamie was there to help you, to support you, to celebrate you, and to give everything from helpful words to a scary movie recommendation.
Jamie is survived by husband Martin, son Liam, beloved cat Pickles, parents Jerome and Cindy, brother Justin, and Mother-in-Law Susan Simpson. She is profoundly missed.
A viewing and service will be held in Colorado Springs, at Swan-Law Funeral Directors Chapel (please enter through Chapel doors), 501 N Cascade Ave on Sunday, 23 Feb 2025, from 1-3pm. An informal gathering (refreshments provided) will follow at 8250 Andrus Dr, Colorado Springs.
