Born on July 18, 1947, in St. Albans, England, Janet was the daughter of Thomas and Kathleen Girling. She grew up in Great Britain before meeting the love of her life, a U.S. Air Force serviceman, and later became a proud U.S. citizen.
Janet married George Carlson on May 10, 1969, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. A true partner, wife, mother, and grandmother, Janet will be remembered most for the way she loved so wholeheartedly, her boundless kindness, her infectious laugh, and the warmth she brought to every gathering.
Throughout her life, Janet enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, bowling, knitting, and reading. But above all, her greatest joy came from time spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, George; her daughter, Sharon Moody; and her grandchildren, Andrew Moody, Cameron Carlson, and Colin Carlson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Kathleen Girling; her brothers, Anthony and Geoff Girling; and her beloved son, Mark Carlson.
A service celebrating Janet’s life will be held on September 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home (3825 Airport Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Space Foundation, where Janet volunteered more than 1000 hours and gave so generously of her time.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that Janet’s love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
