Janet Dixie (Thomson) Jones was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on November 18, 1937 and passed peacefully surrounded by family on June 30, 2022, in Monument, Colorado. Dixie was married to Charles Jones for 65 years, who preceded her in death. She is survived by their four children: Mike (Beth) Jones, Eddie (Charlene) Jones, Terri Thompson Jones, and Deanne (Mark) Ladefoged. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Dixie was very proud of being a third generation native of Colorado and loved sharing the stories of her family heritage. Her grandfather worked in Black Forest logging trees to make railroad ties and also built and ran the Black Forest store and filling station. He also helped build the Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. When the Great Depression hit, her family was forced to move from Black Forest to Woodland Park, where her father worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
She was very active in her children’s lives by giving her time and talents to their school. Dixie was the PTA president at Ivywild Elementary for many years, where she was known to have organized the best carnivals in Colorado Springs. Dixie moved to Palmer Lake in 1973 and became involved in the Palmer Lake Home Extension Club. She was also an avid gardener which was apparent to everyone that visited her home.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 20 at 10:00 am at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
