

She was born in Georgetown University hospital in Washington D.C, on November 23rd, 1939, to Ruth Elizabeth Madore Adams and Curtis Carruthers Adams. She grew up in Silver Spring Maryland and graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1958. She married Wendell Laurance B. Nielson of Chevy Chase, Maryland in 1959. Janet and Larry had three children Elizabeth Brigham, Daniel Edward, and Kathryn Gene, all born in Washington D.C. They relocated in 1969 to Colorado Springs, CO. Larry worked for UNIVAC/Sperry Rand corporation as a federal systems analyst. He died on August 4th, 1982. Janet worked for School District 11 while her children were growing up. She relocated to Ormond Beach, Florida where she lived for 10+ years and worked as an agent for Benny Miles real estate. She returned to Colorado Springs in 1999, and worked for Megal and Graff Jewelers, Seabels Gifts and the Fine Arts Center gift store.
Janet was an active gardener and interior decorator of all her homes. She enjoyed participating in and attending a variety of community events from the Women’s US Open, to the Green Box Art festival. She loved visiting gardens and gift shops throughout her life. Finding the perfect plant or gift for a friend or family member brought her the greatest joy. She enjoyed a variety of craft activities and loved to have her work displayed. Jan spent time growing up going to the beach in Ocean City Maryland and in later years with her parents and family to Ormond Beach. She was a member of the Colorado Springs Parkinson’s Support Group.
Janet is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Wynn (married to Thomas Wynn), Daniel Nielson (married to Stephanie Nielson) and Kathryn Boyle (married to Duane Boyle). Grandchildren, Donald, Rachel and Emily Wynn, Jessica, Victoria, Georgieanna, Matthew, and Gabriel Nielson, Andy Boyle.She is survived by her cousins Jimmy Wesson of Williamsburg, Virginia, Barbara Frances Carruthers Montfort, and sister-in-law Nancy Mae McHugh of Silver Spring, Maryland.
