

Following graduation from Nurses Training at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL, she enlisted in the United States Army Nurse Corps in April, 1942 and served honorably in the European Theater during WWII. In 1945, she married her childhood sweetheart, John Irvan Singleton. They were able to spend 54 years together before he preceded her in death in 1999. Tessie loved camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends, doing these activities.
Survivors include: daughters, Janet (Michael) Fortner of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jacqueline (Victor) Bennett of South Pekin, IL, five grandchildren, Theresa (Lon) Miller, Angela (Mack) Dobbie, Jody (Doug) Parsons, Brian (Heidi) Fortner, and Mary Fortner. One grandson, Eric Fortner preceded her in death. She also has eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Our Lady of the Pines in Black Forest, CO. on January 18, 2012 at 11 AM with visitation preceding the service. Interment will be in Lincoln, Illinois on January 23 at 1 pm. Contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice in memory of Janet Singleton.
