

Born on October 1, 1929, to Archie Peacock and Johnnie Irene Hudson in Troy, Alabama, Jo graduated from Ramer High School and Troy State Teachers College. She received a Masters of Science in Education degree from Auburn University. In the 1950’s Jo taught in several Georgia high schools and the Southern Union College where she served as house mother for the girls’ dorm and as Chairman of the English Department.
She married Doug Wasson, a UCC minister on June 2, 1958. In the 1960’s Jo taught at Smith’s Station High School near Auburn, Rock Springs High School in Wyoming and Harrison and Sierra High Schools in Colorado Springs Colorado. In her education career Jo turned out generations of young people who spoke and wrote proper English. She retired from teaching in 1990.
While supporting her husband as he developed his pastoral skills, ultimately founding The Church at Woodmoor in Monument, Jo became passionate in mission work. She was heavily involved in Kiwanis International, Heifer Project International, La Puente Home, Inc., Pikes Peak Advocates for the San Luis Valley, Fast for the Hungry of the World, Christian Ministry in the National Parks, Fellowship of the Second Mile and many other international and local charities. Jo was an active and supporting member of Black Forest Community Church and served on the Board of the Southeastern Association of Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Church of Christ.
Jo fought hard for the underserved while encouraging others to love and serve and grow in their faith. In her spiritual life, Jo inspired many people to seek and serve Christ. She will be remembered for her passion, her fierce loyalty and her generosity.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Doug. She is survived by her cousin Willie Mae Fannin of Alabama, nieces, nephews and many dear friends worldwide.
