

She was born February 18, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa. Joanne attended Briar Cliff University and graduated with a BS in Home Economics from Iowa State University. She married LeRoy J. Salem on December 30, 1950.
Joanne and Roy shared 62 years together. As a military spouse, Joanne ventured around the world with Roy to Japan, Spain, Italy, England and numerous Air Force bases state side. They settled in Colorado Springs, in 1979, after retirement and Joanne was a very active part of the community. She became a real estate agent and enjoyed showing homes for over twenty years.
As a founding member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Joanne was active in Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Newcomers Welcome Events and served as Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Joanne loved all the social gatherings at the Church. She will always be remembered as a kind and generous woman and she will be missed greatly by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, devoted husband, LeRoy J. Salem; loving children, Lee, Richard, Linda McCarter, Joni Renn ; brother Mark Hughes Jr., four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
