John E. Ornelas

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rosalie, daughter Cathy, son Jessie, grandson Joseph II and great-great-granddaughter Cerenitie. He leaves behind his remaining six children, Guadalupe (Robert) Taylor, Theresa Squibb, Johnny (Sandy) Ornelas, Annette Velez, Robert (Angie) Ornelas and Ruben Ornelas, 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

John was born in Colorado Springs, to Manuel and Beatrice Ornelas on June 26, 1937. He grew up with his siblings and married his wife Rosalie on July 4, 1955. They had 58 years of marriage before her death in 2013. John served in the army and later retired from Frazee Construction. He loved ushering for St. Mary’s Cathedral, hunting with his boys, camping on his land with the family and spending time in his casita.

John will be missed by all who loved him, especially his family.

A rosary is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5354 US-85, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80911. An inurnment is scheduled at 12:00 pm on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Evergreen Cemetery with a reception to follow.
