Kathy was born December 2, 1949 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Walter and Pauline (Maupin) Kochevar. She grew up in the Grand Valley and graduated from Fruita High School in 1968, Mesa State College, and attended the Colorado School of Mines. Kathy was a computer programmer and was working for FedEx at the time of her retirement in 2015. She married Leonard Courson in Colorado Springs on August 17, 1996 and they lived there at the time of her death. Kathy and Leonard traveled extensively during the years of their marriage. Most of her domestic and international travel including other members of her immediate and extended family. Kathy was especially fond of spending time with her many relatives in the Colorado Mountains. Her favorite pastime was supporting and sharing in the many successes of her family, but she was equally ready to be sharing and supportive of them in times of failure and sadness. She always made time to listen to the problems and concerns of others and she never fell prey to being concerned with petty slights and hurt feelings, she didn’t have time for such trivia. Kathy always had a soft spot for the less fortunate, the unlucky, and the disheartened.
Kathy became an expert in all her work and personal life endeavors. She was an accomplished cook, craftswomen, and seamstress, which she pursued professionally at one time. But her family was her first priority.
