

Kayo was born on October 29,1930 in Tokyo Japan to Torazou and Kaku Maesawa.
Kayo was working as a translator in the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo where she met her husband Maurice L Campbell. They married on June 13,1956 in Tokyo. Together, they came to the United States where Kayo became a proud U.S. citizen.
Kayo worked at the Broadmoor Hotel for many years, Japanese Kitchen/Musashi, Yakitori and Suehiro. She loved her work so much that she never missed a day of work. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Kayo’s ideal vacation was going to Las Vegas, which she had done numerous times. She also enjoyed going to Cripple Creek. She became an avid poker player and played at several establishments in Colorado Springs. She became friends with many of the players who would call her “Mama”, she loved this.
She was a lifelong KC Chiefs fan and loved watching football with her son Maurice.
Kayo enjoyed life to the fullest and was grateful for each day. She could be heard daily thanking God for another day and would always say “live life everyday, happy, happy, happy”!
Kayo loved to make sushi and other Japanese food, you never left her house hungry.
She is preceded in death by her husband Maurice, parents and several brothers.
Kayo is survived by her daughters, Katherine M. Doran, Eugena M. O’Brien (Dave), Jacqueline L. Keyes (Andy), her son Maurice L. Campbell II (Angie), 10 grandchildren: Robert Drury, Jason Callan, Dylan Keyes, Julie Macias, Michael O’Brien, Tabitha Campbell, Maurice L. Campbell III, Brian Martinez, Michelle Martinez, Steven Yeager, 16 great -grandchildren; Makayla, Haiden, Adriana,& Brady Callan, Campbell Macias, Juniper O’Brien, Serenity & MJ Campbell, Kamden, Karter & Kayo Campbell-Turner, Ascher Campbell, Zeriean, Isabella & Emily Martinez, Lucas Yeager, her sister Miyo Saito, brother Eigoro Maesawa, honorary son Danny (Denise) Fyffe and several nieces and nephews in Japan.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Life Care Center and their staff. To her many friends, especially “poker” Angie, JackTen Entertainment Poker Club and Overtime Sports Bar & Grill.
A funeral service for Kayo will be held Friday, January 24, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910, followed by a committal service from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM.
