Kenneth J. Hanrahan

Ken was born to John and Doris Hanrahan and had an older brother and younger sister. Growing up in Flushing, New York he loved sports and animals. Ken graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1973 and then attended St. Edwards University in Austin, TX.

In 1978 he was married to the former Kathleen Hughes and they eventually settled in Plymouth, MA to raise their two young boys, Sean and Brian. In 1985, while playing the sport he loved of baseball, he suffered a spinal cord injury breaking his neck becoming a paraplegic for the remainder of his life. His lifelong friends from childhood, high school, college, and incredible neighbors came together to support the Hanrahan family during the difficult times around his initial injury and throughout the years that followed. He overcame the limitations of his devastating injury and went on to earn his Masters in Public Administration from Suffolk University in 1995. He subsequently went back to work full time at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and spent the last 19 years of his career working for the Social Security Administration until retiring in 2022.

Kenny was known for his sense of humor, perseverance, and the tremendous love he had for his sons and grandchildren. He loved sports and music and frequently brought his sons to games and concerts while they were growing up. He was a surprisingly good interior decorator and he loved his Sandra Way house. He was fiercely independent, quick-witted, and affable with incredibly caring friends that he had met throughout his life.

Ken was preceded in death by his brother Edward, mother Doris (Kelly), and father John Hanrahan.

He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law Brian and Melissa Hanrahan, and his grandchildren Aria and Rowan. His eldest son Sean Hanrahan and his grandson Jack. His sister Doreen Ciborowski and her spouse Andrew, and his loving niece Erin.

A Vigil followed by a Memorial Mass will be held on 12 June 2025 at 0915 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Colorado with a reception immediately following.

Ken will rest peacefully next to his mother and brother at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
