Many of you who are reading this today knew Les as a friend. Some of you may have known him as a colleague. Other’s having known him as a mentor, and leader. For a selected few of us however, we know him as grandpa and dad.
To reflect dad’s accomplishments in his life would, to say the least, take a little time. Family, social, civic and personal. One thing that no one can deny, dad engaged life to its fullest. Hand in hand with our mom, side by side, they faced the world together. Through thick and thin, for better or for worse, they where always there for each other. Married in life for 50 years, Dad would never forsake his love for her. Even after mom’s life on this Earth ended, Dad would never leave her side.
I’m sure you have all witnessed my dad in action. His many talents, his big heart, and his hard work. And for sure, his occasional opinions.
Now I would like to tell you something you may not have known about Les Borst.
Certainly dad had many talents. However, did you know he had a passion for music? In fact, music was a centerpiece of his world. All kinds of music, rock, pop, country, soul, classic, and yes, even a little rap. Whatever moved his soul he would play. From my earliest memory music was a part of our family’s life. Dad never played an instrument. I very seldom recall him singing. But music filled our lives.
His love for music now continues through his grandchildren.
Les was employed by Alexander Film Company for 22 years where he met his wife JoRene. He then worked at Schlage Lock for 20 Years before retiring.
Les was actively involved with community service. He was an active member of the Pikes Peak Radio Amateur Association. He enjoyed reporting the weather daily and was involved with the emergency services of the group among many other areas. He also enjoyed the Saturday morning breakfast with many of his friend from this group. In his younger years he had extensive involvement with Pike Peak Four Wheel Drive Club, Rocky Mountain Off Road Racing Association, International Polka Club, civil war and frontier reenactment groups, all of which he enjoyed with his family.
He will be dearly missed by many.
