

Lonnie E. (Ed) Kennedy was born September 11, 1927 on a farm outside of McKinney, TX in Collin County to Fred and Mary Elva Kennedy. Ed passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026 in Colorado Springs at the age of 98 and 1/2. He was 1 of 11 children. He left high school in 1945 to join the Army Air Force and was called up in 1946 to active duty. He was stationed at Lowry Field and Buckley in Denver, CO. He was then transferred to Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs where he met Dorothy Cargill, a senior at Colorado Springs High School. Lonnie served in the Korean War, was awarded the Bronze Star and other commendations before coming back to Colorado, where he and Dorothy were married in August of 1951 and married for 74 years. The Air Force stationed the family in several places before coming back to Colorado Springs. Ed was in active duty for over 20 years, retiring as Master Sergeant. Ed was very reserved about his military service and never spoke much about it to others. After his Air Force retirement, Ed worked as an auto parts salesman.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his son, Neal; and his grandson, Sean. He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Tafoya (Tim) and their sons, Clinton Tafoya (Aletha), Justin Tafoya (Melissa); his son, Grant Kennedy (Lisa), and their children Travis Kennedy (Katie), Rebekah Stewart (Bryce), Sean Kennedy, deceased; and daughter-in-law, Edie Kennedy. Ed and Dorothy also had 5 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In honoring his wishes, no ceremony or service will be held. A private family graveside gathering will take place at Fairview Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to Dorothy.
