Louise Lowry Link, 76, passed on to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 21, 2024. She transitioned peacefully in her home with family in Monument Colorado, after a courageous struggle with dementia.
Born April 18, 1947, in Greenville, South Carolina, she was the oldest child of William Dulty and Margaret Lowry Smith. Louise is survived by her three younger sisters, Marian Banfield of Arizona, Rebecca Haller of Maryland, and Robin Pinchoff of Colorado. As children of an Air Force Lt. Colonel, they moved frequently. Louise lived in South Carolina, New York, Osaka Japan, Washington DC, Michigan, Texas, Tripoli Libya, Munich Germany, Kentucky, and finally Idaho before she settled in Colorado Springs for the rest of her life.
Louise got her college degree in education at the University of Kentucky, Lexington and her master’s degree in special education from the University of Denver. Teaching was her great passion. She taught elementary students for nearly her entire career in Colorado Springs School District 11, spending a lot of that time at Longfellow Elementary School. Louise was also a reading specialist and focused on serving underprivileged children. Even after her retirement, she continued to tutor and help children as a volunteer at St. Peter Catholic School. Louise also helped initiate ‘Head Start’ in Colorado, a federal program to ensure school readiness for children in low-income households. Her work included giving press conferences on the local news!
Louise took up golf with her father and spent a lot of time on the USAFA’s Eisenhower course. She eventually started working there to save on green fees! She loved to golf and got very good at it. This is where she met her husband.
She married Robert N. Link on Sept 10th, 1983. They were married for 25 years, and she missed him dearly after his passing on January 14th, 2008. Bob and Weezie, as the family called them, were an excellent match. Bob’s outgoing, friendly, and humorous nature encouraged Weezie to enjoy life. He had her laughing a lot, and she really had a great laugh. Following her husband’s lead, she continued wise cracks and witty jokes up until a few months before her passing.
She and her husband, who was passionate about real estate, designed and built two houses together. Louise enjoyed interior design and creating nice spaces. She was also an avid gardener. Taking her love of learning and gardening, she earned her Master Gardener certification. Louise enjoyed and took great pride in her home and gardens. She was also dog lover! Her first dog was a black Scottish Terrier named McGregor, and he and started her love of the breed. She would go on to have Andrew, Mulligan, McDivot, and finally Squire who still lives at Louise’s home with her sister Robin, continuing his job of, what Louise liked to say, protecting the house from “all enemies foreign and domestic!”
Louise worshiped at Grace and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in downtown Colorado Springs and, in her final years, at Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Monument. Louise was also very close with the Wescott Fire Department who was always there for her in her moments of need.
A memorial service will be held for Louise at the Family of Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., located at 675 Baptist Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80921. Flowers can be sent to the church directly prior to the service.
