

1912 - 2012
Margaret Jane Clair was carried away on November 1, 2012 to be with her Lord and loved ones who preceded her in death. She was born April 7, 1912 in Walsen, Colorado, the second child of ten born to Mary and Byrl Goss of LaVeta, Colorado.
Margaret graduated as class Valedictorian from LaVeta High School in 1930. She attended Adams State College for three summers and then taught school for eight years at Ojo, Sunny Side, and Gardner. On May 18, 1935, she married Thomas Clair in Raton, New Mexico, a LaVeta coal miner.
Margaret lived and worked in the Walsenburg-LaVeta area, teaching Head-Start in Walsenburg and was a U.S. Census-taker for several years. Margaret and Tom moved to Fountain, Colorado in 1974 where she was active in 4-H and the Fountain Valley Homemakers Club. She was a member of the Southern Chapter of the Territorial Daughters of Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, parents Byrl and Mary Goss, by brothers Byrel and Robert, and sister Hannah. She is survived by sisters Zelma of Rome Michigan, Olena of Eaton, Mildred of Fountain, Nola of Jupiter, Florida, Delores of Pueblo and Mary Eleanor of Jupiter, Florida, daughters Margaret Ann Hettinger (Loren) of Littleton and Lynell Alberta Jeffryes of Colorado Springs, grandchildren Thomas Hettinger (Patrice) of Littleton, Krista Tongren (Kurt) of Parker, Trevor Hettinger (Amanda) of Westminster, and six great grandchildren; Brendan, Connor, Alex, Lauren, Ryan, and Breckyn, and a host of nieces and nephews. Her pioneering spirit and loving guidance will be missed by her family and friends. Memorial service will be held Monday, November 12, 11:30, at Chapel of Memories, 829 S. Hancock, Colorado Springs.
