Marie Jane Panzer was born January 13, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Albert and Julia Kummerfeld. She graduated from East Commerce High School in Detroit and worked as a secretary to the Director of Budget Control at the Packard Motor Car Company.
She met the love of her life, Don, in Sunday School just before her fifteenth birthday; he was seventeen, and they started a relationship that grew into marriage that has lasted almost 64 years. Six months after their first date, Don went off to West Point. That meant four years of waiting with short visits along the way, but each wrote a letter a day to cement their love. Their wedding occurred on June 26, 1954 and their long life together began. Their first assignment was The Artillery School at Ft. Sill, OK where friendships began that lasted a lifetime. During her 30 years as an Army wife, the family moved 23 times, as she converted each house into a warm, comfortable home. She held secretarial positions along the way, but her primary love was as a wife, mother and grandmother. While living in Oahu, Hawaii for three years, she visited the other islands as well as Japan. During their three years in Naples, Italy, the family visited the Seven Churches of Revelation and followed in the footsteps of St. Paul through Greece and Turkey.
After moving to Monument, Marie served for 8 years as administrative assistant at The Church at Woodmoor and was a member of various church committees. She spent many years camping, hiking and four-wheeling around the states, especially Colorado. Her listening ear and concern for others brought her many friends. Marie enjoyed so much her visits with her grandchildren, camping and the many hours playing board games with them.
Marie is survived by her husband, Don, their children: Douglas (Monika) of Yachats, OR; Susan Jackson (Walt) of Centennial, CO; David (Elizabeth) of Arvada, CO; by her six grandchildren: Lewis (Larah); Alex and Alessa Jackson; Drake, Nathan, and Reid Panzer; and great grandson Emmett.
A memorial service will be held at The Church at Woodmoor on a later date.
