Marilyn Jean (Scott) Harris, 90, a long-time resident of Lenoir City, TN and most recently Morning Star Memory Care Assisted Living in Colorado Springs, CO passed away peacefully Friday evening, March 4, 2022. Marilyn was an extremely dedicated wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Nothing pleased her more than being in the company of her family.
Marilyn was born on March 30, 1931, in St. Clair Michigan. With her first husband she had a daughter Karen. In 1963 she married James H. Harris. She and Jim enjoyed over 50-years of marriage with a family that included stepson James, and two sons, John and Paul. In 1972, the family settled in Lenoir City, TN where they lived until Jim's death in 2017.
Marilyn and Jim were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years and enjoyed many long-lasting friendships. Following Jim's retirement from law practice, Marilyn and Jim spent time together playing golf and traveling to see family. They had many happy times with close neighborhood friends at the home on top of a hill in East Tennessee.
Marilyn will be most remembered by her family as a loving Mother. She excelled in the role and her family benefitted from her love. All children should be so lucky. Marilyn was the heart of the Harris family. She had her father's sense of humor and her mother's sense of caring - a jovial personality that welcomed friends and strangers alike. Marilyn was a talented artist. She learned to paint in 1968 while living in Paris and created beautiful oil paintings throughout much of the rest of her life. Her art is treasured by her family. She also enjoyed her flower gardens. Each year her yard became a canvas of marigolds, tulips, and roses.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband James ('Jim'), her parents Harvey and Florence Scott, daughter Karen Master, and sister Eileen Britz. She is survived by her children, John N. Harris (Antoinette) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Paul H. Harris (Carrie) of Mount Juliet, TN, stepson James S. Harris (Patricia) of Hendersonville, TN, sister Audrey Ann Amburgey of Manistee, MI; her grandchildren, Nathan S. Harris (Christine), Reese J. Harris, Molly G. Harris, John Master, and Tommy Stoneman; and her great-grandchildren, Parker and Mary.
Marilyn will be laid to rest with Jim at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Sevier Highway in Knoxville, TN.
