

Mary Alice Brake was born on August 24, 1955 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, West Virginia to her parents, Cecil Paul and Margaret Helen Brake of Dunbar, West Virginia. Mary Alice was the third daughter and is survived by her sisters, Nancy Leigh Brake and Martha Jane Kidd.
Growing up in Dunbar, Mary enjoyed listening to music, skating, reading, and playing with her neighborhood friends.
Mary Alice graduated from UnC at Greensboro with a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology in 1980.
During her young adulthood, Mary met Theodore Simpson, a contractor. They were married in Winston-Salem, NC. They were married for twelve years but had no children.
Later in her life, Mary was the primary caretaker for her aging parents in Cary, North Carolina for many years. After they both passed away she met Eric Koontz and lived with him in Massillon, Ohio for seven years prior to entering hospice care and coming to live with her sister, Marth Kidd, in Colorado.
Mary Alice Brake is survived by her sisters, Nancy Brake and Martha Kidd; nieces, Amber Brake and her fiance, Giddel Sanchez, and Jasmine Flores and her husband, Rico Flores; nephew, Major Courtney Bailey and his wife, Stormy Sagmoen; and grandnieces and grandnephews, Trinity Ross, Helena Yang, Ares Flores, Malcolm Sanchez and Emma Louise Bailey; in addition to many cousins and their spouses, including Kathryn Brake and her husband, Bill, and many cousins on our mother's side including Joan, Jeanette, Carol, Suzanne, David, and many others.
Mary Alice Brake was preceded in passing by her loving parents.
