Mary Jane Townsend

Mary was born on February 8,1949 in Huntington Park, CA.

Mary attended Central High School, Davenport, Iowa and graduated in 1967.

After graduating high school Mary attended the University of Northern Iowa where she met her husband Jeff at freshman orientation in the summer of 1967.

Jeff and Mary married on June 12th, 1971; and they shared 52 beautiful and adventurous years together. Together Jeff and Mary had three boys; and Mary was truly a boy mom!

Mary obtained her Masters in Special Education in 2007 from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Jeff and Mary felt called to serve in Amman Jordan and lived there for 6 years. During this time Mary taught at the Whitman Academy.

Mary loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren, studying her Bible, humming worship music, sewing, reading, and spending time with her family.

Mary (Mimi as we called her) was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Mary inspired us all to be more connected to the Lord. Mary was a natural teacher who left an impact on so many throughout her years. Mary loved the Lord, and it showed in how she walked through life.

Mary leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years Jeff Townsend, her sons Ryan (Jen) Townsend, Derek (Sandi) Townsend, Mark (Rachael) Townsend and her precious grandchildren Kiley, Jenna, Sullivan, Kyla, Jameson, Reagan.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1pm at Woodland Park Community Church, 800 Valley View Drive in Woodland Park, Colorado. Mary’s celebration will be live streamed for those who cannot attend. Visit www.wpcchurch.org and Click on ‘Watch Live’ at top of screen.
