Born May 13, 1957, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, To Arvilla ‘Arvie’ and Curtis Cook. Mike grew up in Lakeville alongside his three sisters. From an early age, he was always on the move: playing basketball, rehabilitating birds of prey, and nurturing a lifelong love of bikes. He graduated from Lakeville High School in 1975.
After high school, Mike began his career as a draftsman, in Billings, Montana. A role that utilized his creativity, problem-solving abilities, and meticulous attention to detail. In 1981, while living in Bozeman, Montana, he attended the University of Montana, where he pursued his passion for design and earned his degree in architecture. Over the years, Mike contributed to a wide range of projects for several companies: including his own firm, as well as for the U.S. government. Committed to lifelong learning, he later completed his master’s degree in architecture. In addition to taking pride in his professional accomplishments, Mike was equally intentional about being present with and supporting the family he so lovingly built.
In 1979, Mike met the love of his life, Mary, during a soccer match: on opposing teams, no less. They were married on May Day at high noon in 1982 and eventually made their home in Colorado Springs. Together, they raised two daughters, Tanya (born May 1991) and Anika (born April 1993). Their family time was filled with outdoor adventures: camping, hiking, and coming together to play or cheer on a soccer match. In his later years, Mike took up mountain biking and rediscovered his passion for motorcycles, always savoring the simple freedom of the ride.
Mike will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, ready smile, love of adventure and love for his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; daughters Tanya and Anika; sisters Peggy, Julie, and Patti, and their respective families as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvie and Curtis Cook.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Chapel of Memories, 829 S. Hancock Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903. A reception is to follow.
