

Muriel Pearce Ostien, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 13th, 2016 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born in Neptune, New Jersey March 17th, 1936 to Ralph Edward Pearce Sr. and Margaret Partridge Pearce.
Raised in Spring Lake, New Jersey, Muriel graduated from Spring Lake Grammar School, Asbury Park High School, Mt. Vernon Junior College and the University of Delaware in 1958. She taught 1st grade for four years in New Castle, DE.
She was married to Richard Howard Ostien, July 23rd, 1960 in Sea Girt, New Jersey. They moved to Battle Creek, MI in 1962 and Flint, MI in 1965. In 1975 they moved to Manitou Springs, CO where she lived for 42 years. Muriel recently moved into Mackenzie Place where she thoroughly enjoyed new friends and activities.
Muriel was the VP of High Valley Farms from 1977-1992. She was a member of the Junior League of Colo. Spgs, Alter Guild at Grace Episcopal Church, Board of Directors for Junior Achievement, Docent at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, driver for Meals on Wheels and a member of the Garden of the Gods Club.
Muriel and her late husband Richard spent many happy years in Palm Desert California at Deep Canyon Tennis Club each spring. She was known for her gracious hospitality and welcoming household.
Muriel is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, brother Ralph E. Pearce Jr., and son in law Steve Shafer. She is survived by her son Rick Ostien, daughter Lynn Shafer, and grandchildren Trevor Ostien, Sophia and Ben Shafer.
Muriel was loved and adored by many and will be greatly missed. Her advice to her children “Be loving and giving adults. Give something back to the world that has given you so much. Love your families and each other. Families are very important”
The Memorial Service will take place Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 AM at St. George’s Anglican Church, 217 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 719-434-3364. Reception will follow.
