Myra was born October 28, 1932, in St. Louis, MO. Her parents, Willie Demery and Eddie Walker, Jr., preceded her in death. Her brother Charles Brown, also preceded her in death. She married Earl Milam, her high school sweetheart, in St. Louis Mo. in 1949. Earl was in the U.S. Air Force and the couple traveled the world until they settled in Colorado in 1967. The couple remained married for 59 years until Earl’s death in 2008.
Myra is survived by her children Sally Redford (Terry), Rosalind Milam, Duxton Milam (Korinna), and Fletcher Howard; 5 loving grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren (with one on the way). Myra was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She loved her church family and was a regular fixture at Circle Drive Baptist. She made the decision to make Jesus her Lord and savior in 1968 and devoted her life to helping those around her. Myra loved to volunteer and spent many years working in the church nursery, assisting with Girl Scouts and donating coats and clothing to those less fortunate. For over ten years, she worked as a cook at Webster Elementary, lovingly preparing numerous meals for students each day.
Myra was a people person and was pivotal in keeping all sides of the family together. She loved her family and loved talking with her numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She also loved cooking and providing big meals at her home. The more the merrier. Myra had an open door policy and no one was ever turned away.
Myra devoted several years caring for her husband until his death, and then caring for her aging mother. Myra was all about putting others before herself. God only knows all the lives that Myra touched with her selfless kindness. She will be missed by many.
Services will be held on Saturday, the 5th of September at 3:00 pm at Swan-Law Family Mortuary, Colorado Springs, CO.
