Patti grew up in Sioux Falls, SD and in her twenties, she met James (Jim) Goodoien who grew up in Rapid City, SD. They married and their relationship grew into a love that would be a great example for others to emulate. Patti and Jim started ministry together and were directors of crisis pregnancy centers which communicated the goodness of God to others in many towns in the United States like Omaha, NE, Rapid City, SD, Indianapolis, IN and Columbia, MO. Being in ministry also led them to travel to Guatemala with their two young children Jordan and Anna. Jim, her enduring love and wonderful father of their children passed away from cancer in 1994.
Patti moved to Colorado and continued in ministry in Colorado Springs and Canon City. She travelled to South Africa and spoke in Cape Town and Durban. She also worked in the benefits department and as a manager at the Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA) for several years.
Her start in Colorado Springs included the challenge of moving into her home during a hailstorm. She served on the church worship team and met Paul Slauson. Over several months their friendship grew, and they married.
The marriage started with a family road trip through South Dakota and into Minnesota. Over the next twenty-eight years, several great family vacations followed with the children and later with extended families including grandchildren. Patti s children and grandchildren were a great joy.
