

Paul Roger Bratfisch, age 76, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022. He was an incredible father, loyal friend, and dedicated attorney who had the remarkable gift of making people feel heard and valued. His amazing life entailed seeing the world, relentlessly pursuing knowledge and understanding, and fighting for justice as a public defender.
Paul was born on January 8, 1946 to Virginia Snow and Carl Bratfisch in Anaheim, California. After attending Fullerton Union High School, he went on to pursue a degree in Sociology at the University of Southern California, graduating in 1966. He then served in the Air Force, after which he attended law school at the University of Colorado - Boulder, receiving his J.D. in 1972. Paul had a long and tremendous legal career, many years of which were spent in the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office. His career spanned nearly half a century, during which time he fought tirelessly for his clients.
Paul was passionately curious about the world and was constantly exploring places and entertaining new ideas. He loved to scuba dive, ride his Harley, and dance the tango. He was an avid reader who enjoyed discussing and analyzing history and philosophy.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Emily Elkins. To join in honoring him, savor a good martini, read a newspaper cover to cover, and book that trip you’ve been dreaming about.
