

Ralph R. Conner, radio and television newsman and public school teacher, was born to Benjamin C. and Blanche Robinson Conner in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on November 9, 1922.
In World War Two he served with the 69th Infantry, and the 28th Infantry in the European theater. After the war, he completed his education at the University of Tulsa and settled in Colorado Springs in 1948 becoming News Director and Program Director at KVOR, and became the area's first television News Director when KKTV went on the air in 1952. In 1955, he moved into School District 11, teaching at West Junior, Colorado Springs, Wasson, Mitchell and Coronado high schools. He took occasional leaves of absence to travel in Europe. He spent a summer in India as a Fulbright scholar. He retired in 1982.
In retirement, he was a charter and life member of the Old Colorado City Historical Society, serving 12 years as secretary or treasurer. He was an honorary life member of the El Paso County Pioneer Association, which he served eight years of secretary. He was a member of the Fulbright Association; and of the Crossed Sabers Society of New Mexico Military Institute.
He is survived by a niece and two nephews. His brother, James, died in 1991. Memorial contributions can be made to the El Paso County Pioneers' Association or Old Colorado City Historical Society.
