In 1958, Ralph married his college sweetheart, Marilyn, after a chance meeting in Connecticut where she hired him to drive her to classes. Their love story grew into a joyful, adventure-filled life together before they eventually made their home in Colorado.
Ralph proudly served in the United States Navy before discovering his lifelong passion for aviation. He began his career as an airplane mechanic in New York with Pan Am Airlines and later earned his pilot’s license. He went on to fly for private and corporate airlines, and over the years was honored to pilot for President Gerald Ford, actor Jimmy Stewart, actress Barbara Eden, and even a monkey en route to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Many of Ralph’s favorite stories came from his years in the skies, and he cherished sharing them with friends and family.
Ralph is survived by his brother, Gus; his daughters, Elaine Schley and Eileen St. Clair; his grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Courtlyn, and Caitlyn; and his great-grandchildren, Elijah, Emmie, and Grayson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn and beloved dog, Meena.
Ralph will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his church, and his faith; for his love of golf and flying; and for the laughter and joy he brought to those around him.
He will be laid to rest beside Marilyn at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colorado Herding Dog Rescue or the National Milldog Rescue.
