

Rita Anne Leeper passed peacefully from this life on Friday February 4th, 2022, at the age of 76. Rita moved to Colorado after graduating from Brockport College in New York. While her husband, Terry, was away in Vietnam, she taught school for Gates-Chili School District in New York. In 1969, Rita and Terry moved to Alamosa, Colorado. One year later they would make Colorado Springs their permanent home. Rita later received her master’s degree from Regis University. She retired at the age of 56 after 34 years of teaching. Rita spent much of her career teaching third grade at Abrams Elementary School on Fort Carson Army Base. Rita had a passion for gardening and became a Colorado Master Gardner so she could create her dream garden at her home. She enjoyed sewing and making unique gifts for friends and family. Rita was a proud member of the American Association of University Women. She was an avid Mahjong player and loved to spend time playing piano. Rita was a loyal Denver Broncos fan. In the off-season she would spend time reading and traveling to Texas where she and Terry would spend their winters.
Rita is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Terry, her son Andrew (Shana) their children Natalie and Mackenzie. Daughter Alicia (Mark) as well as her sister Jeanne (Mike) and her nieces and nephew. Rita will be interred at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs on a later date, when the flowers she loved are in bloom. Graveside services will take place with a reception for friends and family.
