Robert Dale Collins, commonly referred to as “Bob” or “Bob-o,” beloved husband, father, mentor, and friend, died in a fatal car accident on April 29, 2016 outside of Canon City. He was born in Lakewood, California on August 2, 1960.
Bob grew up in Long Beach, California, and graduated from Jordan High School in 1978. Upon graduation, he became a master electrician and eventually went on to own his own business. Most recently he worked as a Cryotherapy Technologist at HealthTronics and treasured the relationships he made there.
He married his closest childhood friend, Cheryl, in August of 1981. They have two children, Kyle and Katy, and moved to Colorado in 1994.
Working with students had long been Bob’s passion and he became a licensed, ordained minister in 2008. He always said, “I am an electrician to make a living, and a pastor to make a difference.”
Bob was known for his larger than life personality and his intentionality with all those he encountered. Throughout his life, he mentored hundreds of students, many of whom have become like extended family. He was a joy to everyone who knew him.
People were extremely important to him and it brought him great joy when his home was filled with family and friends. He loved watching those he mentored grow and begin to have children of their own, but his greatest joy was his granddaughter Michelle and his grandson on the way.
He leaves behind to treasure his memory, his beloved wife, Cheryl (Course); children, Kyle Collins (wife Janae) and Katy (Collins) Everett (husband Dan); two precious grandchildren; loving father Rex Collins (wife Genevieve); sister Sue Schuler (husband Gail); as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday May 7th, 2016 at 10:00 am at Pulpit Rock Church, 301 Austin Bluffs Pkwy, Colorado Springs, CO 80918.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Wounded Warriors Project via their website.
