an intellectual, an outdoorsman, a flirt, and a boastful father and grandfather. He passed
peacefully on June 12, 2015.
Rob was born Robert Alan Millman to Helen Millman (deceased) and Ben Millman (deceased)
on March 16, 1945 on the Westside of Chicago. He is survived by his brother Marshall Millman,
and together they survived the dicey Southside neighborhood Jeffery Manor. Rob’s childhood
adventures and accomplishments included smashing jitterbug competitions, schooling others in
pool halls, and leading White Castle eating contests (49 sliders in one sitting). These epic feats
were balanced with his dedication and commitment to his high school fraternity, Achetes, which
he always stressed was a cornerstone to his character. After high school, Rob took a little time
to find his path towards Law. He found a great passion through his studies at John Marshall
Law School, and somehow, inconceivably, received his law degree before his undergraduate
degree.
After completing law school, Rob fell in love with Teri Newbold and together they moved to
Colorado in pursuit of mountains and fresh air. He began practicing law, backpacking, camping,
running, biking, fishing, skiing, and parenting. After moving west, Rob found a deep ardor for
the mountains. He dedicated most of his free time to hiking and backpacking and his many
conquests included summiting over 20 14ers and owning the Canyonlands. Shortly after
moving to Colorado, Craig Walter sidled up to Rob, and the two began a four decade friendship.
The Millmans and the Walters, Patti and Chelsea, spent over 25 years worth of Thanksgiving
and Christmas dinners together, in which Rob’s ‘world famous, silken mashed potatoes’ always
took center stage. His two children, Abra Millman Curry and Adam Millman, were toted as his
greatest accomplishments. He taught his children to skip rocks, the immeasurable value of
work ethic, and if you ever fall off the bike, always run it up the hill. Rob’s soninlaw,
Sean Curry
and Rob were very close, and Sean was always impressed by Rob’s spirit for standing up for
what is right and standing up to what is wrong. Rob remained close with and in constant
admiration of his older brother Marshall Millman, who would forever be cooler than him because
of his motorcycle. Rob also held deep respect and regard for his sisterinlaw,
Rebecca
Millman, and would often mention his awe of her strength and grace. Rob had a niece Mara
Beth Millman (deceased) whom he adored. His grief for her loss stayed with him always. Rob
and his nephew, Zak, would often be drawn into thoughtful and thorough conversations, which
inspired Zak to pursue a broad base of knowledge, just like his uncle’s. Rob’s last days were
spent with his only grandchild, Cormac Michael Curry. Rob delved into his grandson's world,
refusing to allow his 3 years of age to distract from these essential life lessons: generosity is a
code of character, the difference between gouda and string cheese, and always smile at the
ladies.
