Rose Ann passed quietly at the age of 91, on February 5th, 2023 in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she was living with her daughter’s family. She was born on October 14th, 1931 in Crumstown, Indiana on the family’s dairy farm to Louis and Helen (Strzelec) Mroczkiewicz. She was the youngest of 12, and the first woman in her family to graduate from high school.
She married Lloyd Franklin Geddes on October 14th, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana and enjoyed nearly 37 years together before his passing, though they would probably tease each other about the “enjoy” part.
Rose Ann is survived by her children: Ann Hollingsworth of Virginia, Joe Geddes of Ohio, John (Barb) Geddes of Indiana, Robert (Silvana) Geddes of Florida and Pat (Larry) Freymuth of Colorado as well as 24 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and a multitude of caring nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, her husband and her children, James Geddes and Penny Coplen.
Rose Ann spent her life caring and doing for others. She was a lifelong volunteer, from helping the war effort as a child during WWII to later in life making meals for Meals on Wheels as a senior herself. She was a true Cubs fan, starting by listening to the games on radio so she could avoid chores on the family farm, then watching them on WGN (usually with her eyes closed), to attending games at Wrigley with friends and family, to finally discovering the MLB app in Colorado in her final years. She was a lifelong traveler preferring to go by train and avoiding planes whenever possible. She traveled from Mexico to Canada, coast to coast in the States and beyond. But, what everyone will remember her for is that she was a world class crafter. She was always learning and sharing new crafts. From sewing to cake decorating and her final passion, card making. Many will say her true gift was sharing all her hobbies with her loved ones, something she was treasured for. Even in her final years, she enjoyed making and giving things to those she loved or to charities she believed in.
There will be no funeral, no viewing, and no memorial per her request. She will be buried next to her husband in South Bend, Indiana with a simple graveside blessing and little fanfare. Let’s be honest, the real party will be where she is going, when the brothers and sisters are all back together again and where Lloyd, Penny and Jimmy will welcome her with open arms.
If you wish to honor her memory, volunteer, make something with or for someone you love. Still better yet, watch a Cubs game and cheer them on, win or lose as she always did. But be sure to grumble if they lose!
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Swan-Law.com for the Geddes family.
