

Roy McClendon, beloved father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on May 3, 2015 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Donalsonville, Georgia, October 28, 1929, the second of six children born to the late Lindsey and Lessie McClendon.
Roy grew up in Donalsonville, Georgia and later entered the United States Army. His 27 year military career included two combat tours in Vietnam during which he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal w/V Device and 2nd Oak Leaf , Combat Infantryman Badge and other numerous awards and commendations for his honorable service to his country. CSM Roy McClendon retired his military career in 1978 at Fort Carson, Colorado.
Following his retirement, Roy graduated from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Masters of Public Administration degrees. With his passion for community service, Roy built the Adult Youth Counseling Services, LLC, providing therapy services for drug abuse and dependency, domestic violence, marriage and family counseling with offices in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Canon City and West Cliff. .
Roy lived life to the fullest, was full of energy and loved the outdoors. He was a sports enthusiast, avid skier and a competitive racquet and handball player. Most importantly, Roy was a coach, teacher, mentor and leader of all mankind. Roy was the founder of the Black Ambassadors Ski Club of Colorado Springs and over the years, Roy served on the boards, Beth Haven, Inc and the USO in Colorado Springs.
Family and friends were very important in his life. A builder of relationships, the word “stranger” was not in his vocabulary because he was a loyal friend to everyone he met.
Surviving his transition with cherished memories are: his two daughters, Cynthia McClendon of Mitchellville, MD, Deborah Morgan, son-in-law John Morgan of Waterford, VA; one sister, Judy M. Reynolds of Macon, GA; devoted friend, Katharina Prevost, two sisters –in-law; two granddaughters and one grandson, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and many life long friends.
