Mary Ruth Bybee Henderson completed her journey home to heaven on January 27, 2018 at the age of 96. Born in Paris, Texas on September 4, 1921, Ruth was the daughter of the late Duff Talton Bybee and Rosa Lee Akin Bybee, and the second of two children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Bybee, her husband, Charles Carey Henderson, and her daughter, Virginia Ann Henderson Gibson.
After graduation from high school in Dallas, Texas, Mary Ruth Bybee worked in the North American Aviation plant to help the war effort. She studied and received training at the Hockaday School in Dallas, and received her Bachelors Degree from Southern Methodist University. Later she went on to earn a Masters Degree in English from Rice University. Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Charles Henderson, on June 10, 1943, and they were together for nearly 70 years before her husband preceded her to heaven in 2013.
Ruth was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother of four, and a friend to many. She was a life-long learner, an avid reader, an author and a poet. She was known for her keen mind, her honest approach to life, her charm and her smile. She accepted the gift of salvation when she was 52 years old and enjoyed studying the Bible and writing Christian poetry. One of her many passions was to help the needy and poor and to spread God's Word.
Ruth leaves behind her son, Robert Charles Henderson (Sandra J.), her daughters Elizabeth Henderson Day (Richard C.) and Margaret Henderson Jones, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 2 pm on Monday, February 12th at Cheyenne Mountain Presbyterian Church, 4450 Westmeadow Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado, with Elder John Alpeter officiating.
