After completing school, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper and part-time and a dance instructor for Arthur Murray. She met her husband George Land at a dance in 1961 and married him in 1963. She later went to Glens Falls Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1972 and started working as a nurse. George was an engineer at Martin Marietta. After some time, his job took him out of town during the week and he was home on weekends. Shirley eventually left nursing to be home with her husband. She had gone back to school and received a degree in accounting in 1982, and worked as an accountant for Mission Viejo. Shirley and George continued dancing and traveled to places in Europe many times. Shirley and George were married for 44 years when he had passed away. She later met Frank Viola at a dance at the Senior Center, and they continued dancing. They also traveled to many places such as Florida, Arizona, and California. He was her beloved companion until she had passed away.
Shirley is survived by two children Jim Land and Sharon Hoffman-Hill, and her companion Frank Voila.
A funeral service for Shirley will be held on Friday, November 25th at 9:00 am at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903, followed by burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
