

After a long journey with Alzheimer’s, Sister Clarice (Agnes Anna) Gentrup was called by the Lord on Thursday March 5, 2026, at 7:15pm. Sister Clarice died peacefully at Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center.
Sister Clarice was born December 5, 1937, in Beemer, NE. the 7th of 11 children to parents, Theodore and Theresa (Spenner) Gentrup. She is survived by her brother Ted, sisters, Leona, Ludmilla, and Theresa. Preceding her in death are her parents Theodore and Theresa, brothers William, Ignatius, Fred, Leo, sisters Cecilia and Catherine.
Sister Clarice entered our Community on August 12, 1956, professing final vows on August 12, 1963. This is Sister’s 70th jubilee year.
After initial formation Sister Clarice made vows and entered Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska where she earned a BS degree in Pharmacy. In 1964 she was assigned to minister at Saint Anthony Hospital, Denver, Colorado.
In 1990 after seven years as chaplain at Saint Francis Hospital in Grand Island, NE, Sister Clarice was elected Provincial for the Sisters of Saint Francis, Saint Joseph Province, returning to Colorado Springs where she served two terms as Provincial, 1990-2002.
In 2003 Sister Clarice was elected to serve on the Congregations General Council, in Olpe Germany, serving six years as a General Council Member and re-elected for an additional six years as Vicar General.
The rosary will be prayed for Sister Clarice in the Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center Chapel at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 15th and a Wake Service held in Canticle Chapel at Mount Saint Francis Convent at 5:15 pm. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on March 16th in St. Francis of Assisi Church, followed by burial in the Mount Saint Francis Cemetery.
