

Stephen was born in Coshocton, Ohio on September 3, 1947, to Joseph J. Hallisy and Audrey F. Hallisy. His family moved to Colorado when he was four. He attended Sacred Heart and Pauline Memorial Grade Schools, and graduated from Harrison High School in 1965. Stephen was the first Eagle Scout in Troop 74. Stephen attended the University of Colorado on the Evans Scholarship where he earned his bachelors and masters degree in Archaeology. Stephen served in the United States Air Force National Guard. As an archaeologist he worked on projects throughout the United State, and especially enjoyed working in Colorado, New Mexico, California, Oregon and Hawaii. While in college he worked on archaeological projects at Mesa Verde, Colorado. He retired in 2010 from the U.S. Highway Administration where he served as an archaeologist. During Stephen's entire life he loved to go fishing, particularly with family members. Another avocation was films; he could recall the names of almost all actors and directors. He had a fascination for World War II history and Winston Churchill. He enjoyed music, particularly Frank Sinatra and The Beatles. He was an avid reader and a student of philosophy. Stephen treasured his friendships and will always be remember by his family as a kind, caring and gentle person who cared deeply for animals.
Stephen is survived by his brother, Michael D. Hallisy, his sisters, Tanna A. Kuhn (Dave), Cathleen M. Cogswell (Buster), and Laura J. Cogswell (David), his step-father, Ed Shepherd and eleven nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his father and mother and his sister Audrey Lee.
Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Swan-Law Funeral Director's. The memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Holy Rosary Chapel, 4435 Holiday Trail, Cascade, Colorado.
